The Indian<\/strong> River Bay\u00a0<\/b>is a body of water in\u00a0Sussex County<\/a>,\u00a0Delaware that is part of Delaware’s inland bay system, along with\u00a0Little Assawoman Bay\u00a0and\u00a0Rehoboth<\/a> Bay. Fed by the\u00a0Indian River\u00a0at its western end, the bay is connected to the\u00a0Atlantic Ocean<\/a>\u00a0to the east via the\u00a0Indian River Inlet. \u00a0The\u00a0Indian River Bay<\/a> is unique among Delaware’s inland bays in that it is a\u00a0drowned river valley, whereas Delaware’s other bays are\u00a0estuaries\u00a0built on\u00a0sand bars.<\/p>\n

It is bordered by several protected environmental areas, including\u00a0the Delaware Seashore State Park,\u00a0Holts Landing State Park, and the Assawoman Wildlife Area.\u00a0 The Delaware Seashore State Park, located by Dewey Beach<\/a> was created\u00a0in 1965 and covers 2,825 acres.\u00a0 It is a major attraction for millions of visitors who come to the\u00a0Delaware Beaches\u00a0for water-related activities.
