A favorite pastime of the young, the mature, the local and the vacationer is fishing at the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier in the state park in Lewes, Delaware.\u00a0 Avid and amateur fisherman can catch blue fish, striped bass, croaker, kingfish, pufferfish, skates, and others!<\/p>\n

This quarter mile long, all-wooden pier was built during World War II by the US Army as part of the Fort Miles Military Base.\u00a0 Mines were anchored at the bottom of the harbor to protect the entrance to the Delaware Bay from enemy ships.\u00a0 At the war\u2019s conclusion, one of the German U-boats surrendered at this pier.<\/p>\n

The US Army returned lands to Cape Henlopen and the pier became a feature of the state park for all to enjoy.\u00a0 Over time, the pier aged and after 5,650 replacement boards, 160,000 nails and 125 repaired or replaced pilings, the reconstruction project was completed in May of 2016 and now all can once again\u00a0appreciate\u00a0this historic site.<\/p>\n
