Why We Live Here . . . Thrasher's French Fries

Picture of Tammy’s boys enjoying Thrasher’s Fries on a beautiful day in Rehoboth Beach!

“Thrasher’s Fries!” “Thrasher’s Fries!” This is what I hear from my boys every time we head to the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk. We always stop – because honestly, “Nobody does French Fries like Thrasher’s.”

Thrasher’s Fries was opened in Ocean City in 1929 by a man from Georgia known as Mr. J.T. Thrasher. Mr. Thrasher wanted to introduce his unique concept to the area. He proposed a food stand concession that only specialized in one product – the French fry.  His idea was to produce the best tasting French fry ever eaten – and I believe he did just that!

The process of making the “best” French fry is based upon quality ingredients, hard work, and above all – attention to the perfection of each cup of fries. Mr. Thrasher knew only the highest quality potato would suffice which meant that the potatoes would have to be purchased from different regions and states and at different times of the season.

In 1974, Charles R. Jenkins purchased Thrasher’s. He refused to alter the original secret recipe or the cooking process.  Today, Thrasher’s French Fries is still under the same management. Quality is still the ultimate goal and only through painful and perfectionist management techniques – the fry retained its superior taste and appearance.

So next time you are in the area – in Rehoboth Beach or Ocean City and you smell the aroma of freshly cooked French fries and you hear the cries of the young children yelling “Thrasher’s Fries!” “Thrashers Fries!”  Stop and try some fries – you won’t be disappointed!
